About The Book

The Woman in Red tells the story of Anita Garibaldi, the woman from the wilds of Brazil who would go on to become the most revered woman in all of South America and Italy.

Anita’s life is forever changed after a chance encounter with Giuseppe Garibaldi, a mercenary hired to liberate the Southern Brazilian Republics of Rio Grande do Sol and Santa Catarina during the Ragamuffin War. Unable to resist each other the two began an illicit love affair that will span multiple wars, three countries, and enduring even death.

It is through this love and adventure that the Anita Garibaldi of legend is forged. She becomes a woman who fights alongside her husband. A fierce mother who would do anything to protect her children. A revered folk hero.

This is her story.
